An Internship is a limited work experience opportunity for students to understand a workplace and gain the skills and knowledge needed for the job. Besides exploring career options, internships allow students to add value to their resumes while they are in college.

University Training & Development Centre UTDC has devised strategy known as “Industry Engagement Initiative” which is actually an internship program. The serious issue in India has been that the higher education sector and the industrial sector have worked in isolation from each other. One of the reasons behind the talent crunch is the significant industry-academia divide. This has resulted in two extremes. On one hand, the industry needs talent and on the other hand there is an abundance of engineers who don't have industry oriented necessary skills. Today, when Indian higher education sector is poised on the verge of liberalization, role of industry would be crucial in taking the Indian education system to a higher trajectory.

To overcome this challenge of talent crunch, the University has incorporated final semester internship in its UG and PG programs with an objective to facilitate the budding professionals with industry exposure. Under this program, the students will have to necessarily go through the internship in their final Semester. The assessment of a student is done based on assessment of Presentation –Viva of the project to the industry- academic mentor(s) and submission of project report by the student. The engagement also provides “Best Match Hiring Opportunity” to the industries, post completion of the program.

Every year UTDC explores and provides opportunities across diverse areas of business, academia, non-profit organizations etc. Besides internships/ placements in the corporate sector, offers with academic/ research institutions are also made available for the students.

The placement process at Shobhit University is coordinated by UTDC along with the school’s placement coordinators and the Student Placement Committee (SPC) SPC is formed at the beginning of new academic session based on the recommendation of school coordinator who picks up the member for the students’ committee based on the defined parameters stipulated by UTDC. Once an organization approaches the University for conducting their campus recruitment process, the institute seeks detailed Job Description from the organization. Further, the student placement committee takes the lead and schedules Pre-Placement Talk (In-campus/Online) of the prospective recruiter with the students. Pre-Placement Talks, usually of 30-45 minutes, provide an opportunity to the students and organizations to interact and exchange information. Post PPT, an email informing about the job/internship opening and its details is shared by the placement committee with the students who in turn register and submit ‘Expression of Interest’ for the job/internship opening. The placement committee then provides detailed profile of the interested students to the organization who in turn selects the interns based on their internal selection process.

UTDC will be happy to host the organizations to conduct on campus recruitments of the eligible students at the campus. The University provides all the support in terms of infrastructure and facilities for smooth conduct of the recruitment process. The organizations may also conduct online/off-campus selection process with prior information to the placement office.

Post the selection process, it is expected that the organization will share the result with UTDC. A formal offer letter may also be shared with UTDC within two weeks of joining of a selected student. The selected students accept the offers based on the Institute’s Placement policy. The selected students will normally be available to join immediately on completion of their final semester exams. However the deviation for joining during their final Semester of program may also be granted by the University based on the merit.
