Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Tyagi

Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Tyagi serves as the Vice Chancellor of Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology (NAAC Accredited Grade ‘A’), Deemed-to-be University, NH-58, Modipuram, Meerut (UP), India. An esteemed academician, Prof. Tyagi brings extensive expertise in teaching pedagogy, research, education, and administration. He earned his B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. in Chemical Technology from Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, completing these degrees in 1984, 1986, and 1992, respectively.

Prof. Tyagi's distinguished career spans 34 years at Harcourt Butler Technical University, where he served in various capacities from 1988 to 2022. He also held the position of Director at Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jhansi, an autonomous institution of the U.P. Government, from 2016 to 2021. Following this, he joined Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology as a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology for over a year and also served as the Chief Proctor of the University.

His career is marked by a commitment to discipline, equality, diversity, and inclusion. He has undertaken numerous administrative roles, including Head of Department, Superintendent of Examinations, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Chairman of the Council of Student Activities at Harcourt Butler Technical University.

He established the Centre of Excellence in Applied Research, Training, and Education in Lipid Science at Harcourt Butler Technical University under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP2).

Prof. Tyagi's research interests lie in novel surfactants and oleochemicals. He has supervised five Ph.D. & 26 M.Tech. students and published 56 research papers in reputed journals, presented 30 papers at conferences, and authored two technical books. He has also served as a reviewer for many national and international journals. He has completed numerous research projects funded by DST and AICTE, and has presented his research internationally, including in the USA and Canada. Additionally, he has provided consultancy to various chemical industries. Dr. Tyagi has been instrumental in formulating many Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with industrial and academic organisations. He has also organized many conferences/workshops/training programs in the thematic area of research interests.

During his tenure at Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and Technology, he contributed significantly to infrastructure projects under the TEQIP3 and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Quality Improvement Programme (DDUQIP). Prof. Tyagi is a Life Member of the Oil Technologists' Association of India, where he served as Honorary Secretary (Central Zone) from 1997 to 2001, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (FIE).

An enthusiast in extra-curricular activities, especially in sports, Prof. Tyagi has represented the U.P. State Team at the National level for five consecutive years in the Masters Aquatic Championship.
