Our Logo

Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology, Deemed to be University (previously known as Shobhit University) was established with the lofty vision of Empowering the Nation through Education. In accordance with this exalted vision, the University Logo was designed to depict the role of the University as a centre for the Creation and Dissemination of Knowledge not only within India, but also across the globe.

The circular shape has been selected with a great deal of forethought. There is a psychology behind shapes and colours. They evoke emotions and feelings and have a defined connotation in our subconscious. The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notion of totality, wholeness, perfection, the Self, the infinite, the eternity, the timelessness, all cyclic movement. A circle has no beginning and no end. It represents life and the lifecycle.

In Sanskrit the word ‘mandala’ means ‘magic circle’ or ‘from the essence’. The ancient Greece circles were seen as representations of the ‘Divine’ and ‘natural balance’. “God is a circle whose centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere”, said Hermes Trismegistus.

A rounded shape tends to send a positive emotional message of harmony and protection. It is used in our Logo to represent unity and commitment, wholeness and harmony. Circular shapes are noticeable and powerful. They represent constant movement and continuing action. In our logo this idea is encapsulated as a never ending cycle of knowledge generation and knowledge dissemination.

The outermost boundary of the circle has scalloped shaped edges in ochre yellow. The curves of the scallops depict cupped hands ready to receive the benediction of knowledge from the universe. The eight points represent the eight directions. The depiction signifies receiving the light of the sun from the Universe. In Indian culture, light is symbolic of knowledge, goodwill and good fortune. The sun is revered as the source of all life on Planet Earth.

Enclosed within the outer ring is a map of the world in the colour green. Green is the colour of prosperity. A green planet is a healthy planet. It is the green cover of abundant plant life - in the form of forest, grassland and crops - which sustain the earth. Greenery in the form of crops feeds the teeming millions in all parts of the world and brings prosperity and wellbeing to all. The visual is also symbolic of receiving the light and spreading the light of knowledge to every corner of the globe.

Superimposed on the world map is a white ‘U’ which stands for both Universe and University. Within the ‘U’ is an orange ‘S’ which stands for Shobhit. It also has the shape of a flame - the flame of knowledge as well as the flame of passion to spread knowledge. Orange or saffron is the colour of valour as well as spirituality. The colours of the Shobhit University logo echo the saffron, white and green of the Indian Tricolour. For the Indian mind the colours itself evoke a sense of pride and patriotism.

The logo of Shobhit Deemed University thus depicts the idea that the University is a centre of learning - taking the light of knowledge from the universe and disseminating it to the world with a spirit of dedication, valour and truth.

Between the outer scallops and the inner circle with the map of the world is a while ring in which are inscribed the name Shobhit Deemed University as well as its motto in Sanskrit, तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु (tejasvi navadhitamastu), which translates as ‘May knowledge illuminate us both.’ In order to understand the full significance of the above phrase it is important to understand its context. The line is taken from a verse in the Kathopanishad. The Kathopanishad is a discourse by an unknown Guru to his Shishya. The verse from which this line is taken is actually a prayer by the Guru before he imparts Gyan to his disciple. The prayer is of immense significance because it contains a deep understanding of the relationship between a Guru and Shishya - the teacher and the taught. The meaning of the entire prayer is as follows:

“O Supreme Brahma. Please protect us both.
May we together imbibe an attitude of Spirituality.
May our combined energies be productive.
Illuminate us both with thy knowledge.
May we never be jealous of each other.”

The prayer written eons ago is still relevant today as it seeks to enable both the teacher and the taught to combine all their resources and potentials and become partners for the achievement of the highest goals of acquiring and disseminating knowledge.

Shri Kunwar Shekhar Vijendra, the Co-founder of the University, conceptualized the logo. Mr. Raashid Rangrez, a Production Designer based in Mumbai, designed it with great forethought. Hailing from Gangoh, he completed his BFA and MFA from Jamia Millia Islamia University.
