Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine: Basics & Clinical Applications

Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, (popularly known as Shobhit Deemed University), is a NAAC Accredited, deemed to-be university established u/s 3 of UGC Act 1956. We are a research-based, industry oriented and highly ranked multidisciplinary University. Our academic programs are duly approved by UGC, and relevant statutory councils, i.e. AICTE, BCI and NCTE etc. Our strong Alumni Network, of more than 50000 graduates, extends throughout the world serving a wide spectrum of industries globally.

Department of Biotechnology was established as a premier Department in 2007. We define biological engineering as an analogous sibling to the main, well-established engineering disciplines in being recognizably focused on creating new technologies for a spectrum of biological applications based on basic science foundation — all using the two “wings” of engineering:” ‘analysis’ and ‘synthesis’.

With a goal of developing effective biology-based technologies for application across a broad spectrum of society’s needs, including prominently, but not exclusively, human and environmental health, Bio-Engineering students can learn within an exciting landscape of research opportunities.

Dr. Deepika Arora

Assistant professor
Department of Biotechnology
School of Biological Engineering & Life Sciences
Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology
A NAAC Accredited Deemed to-be University) Meerut

Dr. Deepika Arora has recently completed her tenure as a Fulbright-Nehru postdoc fellow (September, 2018-August, 2020) at Biosystems and Biomaterial division, National Institute of Standard Technology, Gaithersburg, USA and National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA. She did her PhD in Biosciences, jointly from Integral University and CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, in July 2017. Major research area of her PhD work was liver toxicology and environmental carcinogenesis. Post PhD, she joined Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology–Guwahati, Assam (till 2018) where she was engaged in developing bioengineered in vitro 3D Liver and Breast organoid/tumoroid models for screening of anti-cancer drugs and regenerative medicine applications. Afterward, she Joined National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), USA as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow in Sept 2018. At NIST, she was working on development of model test systems for measuring the viability of cells in scaffold systems. Also, at National Institutes of Health (NIH), she has been working to assess tissue regeneration variability in bio-engineered stem cell-derived grafts using a combinatorial cassette platform.

Dr Deepika has published 12 research papers and reviews in journals of international repute so far (Total impact-51.1; citations 114). She has been awarded some prestigious national and international fellowship awards such as ICMR-Senior Research Fellowship, National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPDF), and Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellowship. Also, she was selected for hands-on training on induced pluripotent stem cell culture at Kyoto University, Japan in 2017, funded jointly by DST (India) and CIRA (Japan). At present she is working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Biotechnology, Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology (Deemed to be University), Meerut. She is presently engaged in teaching and research activities for the advancement of the academics in the area of Biotechnology and Microbiology.
