Why Biannual Admissions Matter?
For many students, missing out on a single admission cycle can mean waiting an entire year before they can enroll in the desired program. Delays in board exam results, personal health issues, or unforeseen circumstances can sometimes prevent students from joining in the first round (July-August batch). The introduction of biannual admissions means that students who miss the July-August cycle will now have a second chance to apply for the January batch, ensuring they don’t have to wait a full year to continue their studies.
UGC Chairman Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar highlights that this move will help keep students motivated, as they won’t have to wait too long to get back on track. "With biannual admissions, students can join a program at the next available cycle, improving their chances of pursuing higher education without unnecessary delays," he said.
- Increased opportunities for students who miss the initial admission window.
- With Biannual admissions, students will not have to wait for a year in case they miss the first cycle due to delayed results or personal reasons.
- As this system is already being followed globally, it will help enhance international collaborations and student exchange/admission abroad.
- Enhanced flexibility for students to plan their academic journey.
- Aligns with global design education practices.
- Allows for more frequent interactions with industry professionals and alumni
